Born in Montreal, Quebec, Randall
Clifford received his bachelor of science specializing in Geology from
Concordia University in 1982. He was hired by a major computer company
and transferred to Calgary which he now calls home. After ten years of
"Corporate life" he was ready for a change. He left his suit
and tie behind and discovered a release for his creativity. Pottery.
Studio 55 was born. Pottery focused his scientific and geologic
backgrounds with a love of form, design and beauty.
Being basically self taught, he
began to draw from his experiences. He creates items which are not only
pleasing to the eye but have a definite function and form. He makes you
believe there is something more within and has developed various
techniques to further enhance this impression. His works often contrast
the harshness of their creation with the gracefulness of their form,
proving that the whole is truly more than the sum of their parts.
Working both in stoneware and in
RAKU, he started a line of environmentally friendly products, oriental
tableware and ceramic "art". His Enviro-Candles quickly
became one of his most recognizable products due to their unique design
and powerful colors. These candles integrated an attractive product with
a strong environmental interest. |
